During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote Outlander Season 6 (which debuted on March 6), Heughan, 41, gave the world a peek at a prior acting gig of his, performing in a traveling Batman stage show. The Outlanderstar previously played the starring role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in a production called Batman Live before getting his big break. (Take a peek above at his opening night performance, which took place in Manchester, England, on July 19, 2011.) “It’s a stage show—it’s like a Cirque [du Soleil] show—and we went all around the world. We did the Staples Center, we did Vegas, all around the world—yeah, it was a lot of fun!” the proud Scotsman said. He also joked, “I’m not sure if Batman’s ever worn a kilt, has he?” When asked if he’d ever play Batman again, Heughan gushed that he’d love to—and then host Jimmy Fallon gave him an opportunity to do so immediately, handing over a signature Batman cowl. The studio lights darkened, and Heughan rocked the mask and broke out an objectively fantastic Batman voice. Next, the Outlander star told Fallon about his tequila venture, which comes on the heels of his award-winning Sassenach Scotch-blend whisky. Heughan’s El Tequileño: The Sassenach Select won a gold medal, and he gifted a bottle to Fallon. He said of the experience making The Sassenach Select, “I just randomly went to Mexico to just go to the Highlands there, and just met these guys at El Tequileño, and they are just master distillers. They are Mexico’s best-kept secret.” He added that he bonded with the El Tequileño distillers over their love of spirits. Those spirits may come in handy for coping with Droughtlander, because Heughan also revealed that Outlander fans may be in for another long wait after Season 6! “Each year the Droughtlander gets slightly longer,” he said. “This time the break has been almost two years between seasons, so I think we’re just testing our fans,” he joked. “Next time it’ll be like, a decade.” As for what to expect from Outlander in the future, Heughan was mostly tight-lipped—but he does know quite a bit! He said that Outlander will be picking up a short time after Season 5, explaining, “Claire was assaulted and she’s suffering the trauma from that. We have the war of independence is fast approaching, and then my character meets an old adversary in the form of Tom Christie, so there’s so many things happening this season. It’s a shorter season, but some of the episodes are much longer, so it really is very intense.” As for what to expect in later seasons, he teased, “Diana Gabaldon is on Book 10, we’re about to do Book 7 in Season 7,” he said. “She revealed to me the ending a long time ago. It’s in her head, and in my email chain. I hope I don’t get hacked!” Next, find out where Sam Heughan was—and how he reacted—when he got the role of Jamie Fraser!
