Kuhn passed away on Sunday, Nov. 20 while at a hospice facility in Naples, Fla., according to a statement his wife, Barbara, made to The Hollywood Reporter. She also revealed that her husband had been in great health until recently. Kuhn was famous for his role as Beau Wilkes, the son of Melanie Wilkes (Olivia de Havilland) and Ashley Wilkes (Leslie Howards) in Gone With the Wind, which he starred in when he was only 6 years old. Prior to his death, he was also the last surviving credited cast member from the Academy Award-winning film. Kuhn—who was also in Red River, Broken Arrow, A Streetcar Named Desire and more—previously recalled his experience filming Gone with the Wind, telling The Washington Post in 2014 that there was one specific scene with Clark Gable that he just couldn’t get right. “My line was, ‘Hello, Uncle Rhett,” he recalled to the publication. “I kept saying, ‘Hello, Uncle Clark.’” Gable then pulled a young Kuhn aside to explain that his name was Uncle Rhett, not Clark, in the context of the film. “I said, ‘Okay, Mr. Gable.’ And I finally got it on the fourth time,” Kuhn remembered to the outlet. Kuhn would go on to spend four years working for the U.S. Navy as an aircraft electrician, beginning in 1951. Following that, he appeared in two more films, along with three episodes of CBS’ Alfred Hitchcock Presents, before officially calling it quits on his acting career. He went on to work for American Airlines in airport management, before retiring from that in 1995. More News:
