Watch as Donnie Wahlberg discusses what happened in the basement between Danny Reagan and Maria Baez (Marissa Ramirez) in the season 11 premiere episode when they were trapped while hunting down a serial killer, and how it changed things, so much so that Baez joined the Reagan Sunday dinner for the very first time! “It may have been a big turning point for their relationship,” Wahlberg says in the video. “They were really in a situation where they were vulnerable and at risk and kind of really let their guards down. In many ways, Baez said a lot of the same things she always says to Danny, but for whatever reason, the vulnerability that they faced in that moment in the basement, I think it finally got through.” Danny explains to Maria that after his brother Joe died, he made a promise to never let his guard down, to always be the first in and the last out, and somehow that has led to him being known as a hot head. It has cost him every partner he ever had except for her. Wahlberg continues, “He realized how important she was to him on a much deeper level. Not only did it evolve their relationship, but it allowed me to evolve Danny a lot.
