Sex and the City Easter eggs in And Just Like That… Episode 1, “Hello It’s Me”

  1. In the first scene of AJLT’s first episode, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (KristinDavis) bump into Bitsy von Muffling (Julie Halston). Bitsy appeared in the Season 5 finale of Sex and the City, an episode titled “I Love a Charade,” in which Carrie and the gang learn she’s marrying a cabaret singer they assumed was gay, Bobby Fine (Nathan Lane). When she reappeared in Season 6, she was pregnant with Bobby’s baby.
  2. After that opening scene, Carrie and Miranda discuss why Samantha ended their friendship (and thus, doesn’t appear in AJLT). Carrie says, “Because of what the book business is now, it just didn’t make sense for me to keep [Samantha] on as a publicist. She said fine and then fired me as a friend.” In the original Sex and the City series, Carrie and Samantha also had a fight over Samantha’s role as the PR pro advising Carrie on possible cover looks for her first book.
  3. En route to her first-ever graduate class at Columbia, Miranda stops in at a bar and tries to order a glass of white wine—which mirrors that time she had a glass of white wine at a bar in Season 2 and wound up meeting her future husband, Steve.
  4. The bar Miranda stops at is called Smith’s, which some fans think was a kind-of callback to Samantha’s old boyfriend, Jerry “Smith” Jerrod.
  5. Carrie and Big drink wine and listen to one of his old vinyl records while dancing in his apartment, just like they did in SATC’s Season 4 finale, “I Heart NY.”
  6. When Carrie dresses for Lily’s piano recital in the AJLT premiere, she puts on the same pair of blue Manolo Blahnik stilettos that she wore to marry Big in the first Sex and the City feature film. (They were also the shoes Carrie went back to retrieve from the apartment she was supposed to move into with Big at the end of that movie, thus sparking their romantic reunion after he jilted her at the altar.) She asks Big if they look familiar and he says they do.
  7. While getting ready, Carrie also greets the shoes in her closet by declaring, “Hello, lovers!"—which she famously cooed to a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes in SATC’s Season 4 finale.
  8. The York-Goldenblatt family has a dog named Richard Burton. Not only is the pooch’s moniker an ode to the old-school Hollywood icon Richard Burton, but it’s also a callback to the dog that Charlotte and Harry were gifted in Season 6 of SATC, which Charlotte named after her personal hero, Elizabeth Taylor. (In real life, Taylor and Burton were married to each other—twice!)
  9. Lily’s look at the recital is an Oscar de la Renta dress that sports an oversized flower reminiscent of one of Carrie’s most signature looks on the original series.
  10. Playing over the end credits of AJLT’s premiere episode is the song “You Got the Love” by The Source featuring Candi Staton. It’s the same song that played over the final scene of the SATC series finale as Carrie and her friends walked out of the coffee shop.

Sex and the City Easter eggs in And Just Like That… Episode 2, “Little Black Dress”

  1. Carrie sees a dark-haired man and a blonde woman seated outside a chic-looking bistro, reminiscent of many of the dates she and Big shared throughout SATC’s original run.
  2. Bitsy reappears in this episode alongside a man who looks like he could be Nathan Lane, but then her character reveals that Lane’s character, Bobby Fine, died at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  3. Susan Sharon (Molly Price) shows up! The character, who was supposed to be an old friend of Carrie’s, appeared in two Sex and the City episodes. In Season 2’s “The Awful Truth,” she’s unhappily married. Then in Season 4’s “All That Glitters,” she pops up again to comment on Carrie’s recent engagement to Aidan (John Corbett).
  4. Susan Sharon’s dialogue in the second episode of And Just Like That… contains a hilarious callback itself when she remarks about Big, “Am I the only one who remembers what a prick he was to her?”
  5. Carrie has drinks in her apartment with Stanford and Miranda. They drink out of martini glasses, and the scene is reminiscent of the time Stanny came over to Carrie’s place for Cosmopolitans while Big was in Paris in Season 2.
  6. We see that Carrie still lives in apartment 12B, the “more down-to-earth” pad that she and Big moved into at the start of Sex and the City 2 after giving up their penthouse apartment in the first Sex and the City feature film.

  1. Carrie wears a Gucci fanny pack at the start of this episode that, we’re pretty sure, she’s owned for years. It looks exactly like the same one she wore in Season 4, Episode 7 of Sex and the City, when she pops into Aidan’s bar for a visit soon after they’ve gotten back together. (This time around on AJLT, however, she wears the fanny pack like a cross-body bag rather than around her waist.)
  2. After opening up about how she’s been grieving Big’s death, Carrie says, “It’s my story and I’m sticking to it.” That’s the same thing Carrie told Miranda after insisting the new braces she got in Season 3 didn’t look so bad.
  3. Natasha (Bridget Moynahan), Big’s ex-wife before Carrie, makes an appearance in this episode. It’s noted that her last name is Naginsky. On the original SATC, Carrie famously says her name in hilarious fashion.
  4. Carrie tries to guess Big’s password on his computer at home… just like she tried to guess the password her assistant, Louise (Jennifer Hudson), created for her in the first Sex and the City movie.
  5. Carrie stalks Natasha all over again, just like she did on the original SATC. Whereas on the previous series, she ultimately cornered Natasha at a restaurant on purpose, this time around, she did so in a coffee shop by accident. 6. The moment when Carrie runs into Natasha in AJLT is also reminiscent of when Natasha caught Carrie in the apartment she shared with Big back when they were married. As Carrie was running away, Natasha took a spill on the stairs. This time around, Carrie spilled coffee on herself.
  6. Carrie wears a long, pink shirtdress in this episode accessorized by a black spiked belt that we’ve seen her wear at least once before in the first SATC movie.
  7. Miranda admits to Charlotte that she and Steve haven’t had sex “for years” and wonders, “Are we even a couple anymore?” In the first Sex and the City movie, Steve and Miranda broke up after their lack of a sex life led Steve to cheat on Miranda.
  8. Che’s comedy show in this episode is titled “Check the Box.” On the Season 4 premiere of SATC, Carrie asked Big how old he was by suggesting he “pick a box.”
  9. Upon returning from Che’s show to the Fifth Avenue apartment she shared with Big, Carrie chat with her doorman before heading on a walk. He lights up a cigarette, just like the doorman who Samantha seduced in SATC Season 1.
  10. Carrie ends the night (and AJLT episode 3) by going back to her original, single-gal apartment. In voiceover, she declares, “And just like that… I walked myself home.”

  1. Back in her old bachelorette pad again, Carrie goes through the clothes in her walk-through closet and pulls out the white, one-shouldered dress with the giant flower on it that she sported at the very beginning of the first Sex and the City feature film.
  2. She also looks at the brightly colored frock she wore when applying for a bank loan in SATC Season 4.
  3. Carrie tells the realtor who is selling the apartment she shared with Big that her late husband “wasn’t a fan of beige.” In Season 3, episode 9 of SATC, Carrie (who was dating Aidan at the time) ran into Big and Natasha at a furniture exhibit and Big told Carrie, “Beige is bulls**t.”
  4. Carrie smokes a cigarette, presumably for the first time since the original SATC series.
  5. Miranda tells her law professor that she has a friend who once went through IVF “hell” in reference to Charlotte’s quest to have a baby on the original Sex and the City series.
  6. Carrie and her realtor discuss “putting yourself out there” in the dating world. On Season 5, episode 2 of SATC, Charlotte expresses her frustration about whether “putting yourself out there” will really work for her.

Sex and the City Easter eggs in And Just Like That… Episode 5, “Tragically Hip”

  1. On her podcast, Carrie tells the story of the time when Samantha had to pull her diaphragm out of her vagina by hand—which happened in the Season 2 Sex and the City episode, “The Cheating Curve.”

  1. Anthony tells Carrie that he’s “rebounding” from his breakup with Stanford and that he’s “gonna be one of those people who talks about it a lot.” That kinda sounds like how Carrie was after her second breakup with Big on the original SATC series; remember how Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte threatened to “cut her off?”
  2. When Carrie tells Charlotte that she hopes to learn to fall in love with her new downtown apartment, Charlotte replies, “It’s like you’re taking your time and dating, like I did in the ’90s.” Uh, Charlotte… we all know you couldn’t wait to rush down the aisle in the ’90s!
  3. At the end of the episode, Carrie embraces a part of her past by putting on her “Carrie” nameplate necklace.

Sex and the City Easter eggs in And Just Like That… Episode 7, “Sex and the Widow”

  1. Carrie tells her book editor she doesn’t like the proposed cover of her latest memoir; she also didn’t like the proposed cover of her first memoir back in the original Sex and the City.
  2. The episode opens and closes with through-the-window shots of Carrie sitting at her desk writing on her laptop, which was a classic shot used multiple times on the original SATC.

Sex and the City Easter eggs in And Just Like That… Episode 8, “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered”

  1. Seema comes to visit Carrie as she’s going through her old wardrobe from her “20s, 30s and 40s.” One of the items she holds is a Bavarian-inspired dress with a dirndl-style top, which was famously one of her most controversial outfits from the original Sex and the City.
  2. Carrie also shows Seema the stunning Versace gown that she wore one night in Paris while waiting for “the Russian” to pick her up for a night out on the town (which he never did). Later, Carrie puts the gown on again.
  3. Another fashion flashback! While at Carrie’s apartment, Lily puts on the poncho Carrie wore to her “Single and Fabulous?” photo shoot. 4. At the end of the episode, Carrie is seen leaving her apartment with library books in her arms. We know from the first Sex and the City movie that she loves books from the library because of their smell.

Sex and the City Easter eggs in And Just Like That… Episode 9, “No Strings Attached”

  1. Carrie takes Seema out to celebrate her birthday and, after the night doesn’t go as planned, they go out for a quiet piece of cake together. The scene is reminiscent of Carrie’s 35th birthday in Sex and the City’s Season 4 premiere, “The Agony and the Ex-tacy.”
  2. Carrie temporarily loses Big’s wedding ring down a sink and panics, just like she did when she thought she lost her Carrie necklace in Paris.

Sex and the City Easter eggs in And Just Like That… Episode 10, “Seeing the Light”

  1. Charlotte tells Miranda and Carrie that she’s found a trans rabbi to perform Rock’s “they mitzvah” and declares, “It’s beshert!” On the original Sex and the City, when Charlotte is learning about and converting to Judaism for Harry, she likewise uses that word to describe their future. Miranda responds that she doesn’t know what the word means, and Charlotte explains, “It’s meant to be!”
  2. Carrie decides to lay Big’s ashes to rest in Paris on “our bridge,” referencing where they kissed in the finale of the Sex and theCity series.
  3. After Carrie lays Big’s ashes to rest, she texts Samantha and invites her to meet for a cocktail.
