The television personality is married to Ice-T, and the two share a 7-year-old daughter named Chanel. In the spirit of the holidays, Austin and her family and friends put on matching pajamas and danced outside in front of the Christmas lights. It must have looked like they were having a lot of fun, as Chanel decided to jump in and start dancing with them. But this is where the controversy stems from, as Chanel was doing a twerking-like dance. Austin shared a video of the cheerful moment on Instagram, though she clearly knew that people would find an issue with Chanel’s dance, as she attempted to explain why her daughter danced that way in the caption. She wrote, “Gotta love family time! The adults in our family were doing a TikTok and Chanel runs out in the middle to bust a move to make us laugh.. She loves to joke #tinabobsburgers #bobsburgers #tinabelcher #dancemoves.” Based on the hashtags, it seems like Chanel was imitating Tina Belcher from the animated series Bob’s Burgers. While Tina has plenty of iconic moments, one well-known scene is of her dancing and twerking in the same way. Despite Austin’s attempt to clarify the situation, she still received backlash, with one of the negative comments reading, “Those moves on a little girl🤦♀️.” Luckily, many people got the reference and came to Austin’s defense, with one writing, “Clearly she’s doing the Tina, y’all, simmer down and watch some Bob’s Burgers 🍔.” “I love love love her !!!! You guys are great vibes and I love your bond with her ❤️ merry Christmas 🎄,” said another. Austin has been consistently criticized while raising Chanel, opening up on Tamron Hall in November about the unsolicited commentary: “I’m underneath a microscope all the time and you don’t hear what good you do.”
