We’re finally down to the finale of Matt James’ historic season of The Bachelor. But, while Matt decided that Michelle Young wasn’t for him, fans clearly thought otherwise. Just to recap: Michelle, a teacher who didn’t even have Instagram until she went on the show, has been casually confident in their relationship from the beginning. The two have had an easy vibe together and things seemed to be going great between them…until Matt’s mom Patty suggested during a heart-to-heart that he’s just not ready for an engagement. Cue a clearly freaked-out Matt pulling back from the entire experience. While Matt and Michelle had a fun day date that involved rappelling down the front of the Nemacolin Resort, as one does, the evening portion was cringe-worthy. Michelle repeatedly told Matt how much he meant to her, and even gifted him with a sweet jersey to show that they’re “teammates.” And then he broke up with her. The last we saw of Michelle, she was sitting on the floor of her hotel room, quietly sobbing. Fans were not here for it. It resulted in mesmerizing memes and comments on social media. The jerseys were a real sticking point for some: Others pulled Michelle’s students, who have made a cameo on the show, into the mix: And some pointed the finger at Matt’s mom for the breakup: One even recalled Peter Weber’s mom telling the former Bachelor star not to let Hannah Ann Sluss go: And there were a lot (like, a ton) of people who suggested that maybe Matt shouldn’t have gone on The Bachelor if he wasn’t ready to get engaged: There were even a few references to Matt’s BFF Tyler Cameron: And plenty of people pointed out that a few former Bachelorette stars wouldn’t have let Michelle go: When does Michelle’s season of The Bachelorette start filming again?
